The supermarket industry in the UK has become an oligopolistic market and there are some on-going ‘price wars’ amongst the chain supermarkets.
There are a range of differently priced supermarkets in the UK. Some of the supermarkets are more exclusive and can only be found in certain areas or cities. Depending on the location, the size of the supermarkets will vary and most of them offer online home delivery. There are also online supermarkets e.g. Amazon, which also provide home delivery.
In large towns and cities such as London and Bristol, supermarkets are usually more centrally located and smaller. Larger supermarkets are usually found in less urban areas, such as the edge of towns, and often with bigger range of products. Some supermarket chain stores located in city centre are often slightly more expensive than their larger out-of-town ones.

Tesco is UK's largest chain supermarket and thus one of the most common supermarkets you will find. Tesco sets its market in the average range (slightly lower than Sainsbury’s). Certain products are price matched with Aldi!
Tesco does have a range of Asian products and brands available to purchase. But it all depends where the store is located and its size.

Sainsbury’s is the second largest supermarket chain in the UK with a history of 150 years, and its price is considered to be most expensive among the ‘big four’ supermarkets.
They offer variety of products, both branded and own-brand, with great quality. Although Sainsbury's is slightly more expensive but some products prices can be similar to M&S.
As Sainsbury’s own Argos, so many superstores have an Argos branch in-store.

Their meat and fish are extremely fresh with a very good price.
Their bakery is also really good!

Asda is the third largest British supermarket chain after Tesco and Sainsbury's. It was previously owned by Walmart for 21 years until it was bought by the billionaire Issa brothers in Oct 2020.
Asda has been named the cheapest out of the "big four", according to recent Which? analysis 2020. It provides similar quality products as Tesco and Sainsbury's for a cheaper price . Certain products such as crisps, fruits and vegetables are relatively cheap (prices are still a little higher than Aldi and Lidl).
It has less locations than Sainsbury's and Tesco, thus harder to find, especially in London. The size of the supermarket is normally large and is located outside of towns or in retail parks.
