Mayfield Lavender Farm is located in Banstead (Woodmansterne) in Surrey near Sutton, Croydon, Purley and Coulsdon (Greater London area). It is a 25 acre lavender farm with cafe and a home made lavdener prodcuts gift shop. It is approximately 15 miles from Central London.

This is a great day outing for friends and family! You can take lots of beautiful pictures and enter into a photo competition. The farm is normally open in the summer when the sea of lavender flowers is blooming!

Take a train from London* to East Croydon Station then walk 6 minutes to bus stop WK Whitgift Centre and take Bus 166 (Banstead or Epsom Hospital direction) which takes you to the gate of the farm by getting off at Oaks Park bus stop.

Bus journey takes about 45 minutes from East Croydon.

TFL bus fare £1.55 (July 2021) - Oyster or Contactless Payment ONLY

* (Hkbrits has tried this bus route and is not too bad. You get to see the local area of East Croydon - South Croydon - Purely - Coulsdon Town - Woodmansterne.)

* London Victoria (Southern) - 17 minutes

London St Pancras International (Thameslink) - 28 minutes

Can either buy train ticket or use oyster or contactless. (Oyster and Contactless tend to be cheaper)

* This is also a suitable route for those coming up from the south of England (Sussex and Surrey) but Coulsdon South or Purely would be your closer stations (might need to be on a slow train - See Route 2 and 3).

* This route is also suitable for those who are coming up from the south of England such as those is in Brighton or South of Surrey. Coulsdon South would be the closest station, but some might find being on a fast train will only go straight to East Croydon (can see Route 1).

Take a train from London Victoria (Southern: 28 - 46 minutes) to Sutton Station and then walk to Bus Stop O Sutton station and take Bus S1. (direction towards Banstead)

Get off at Croydon Lane and then walk to Croydon Lane South bus stop (2 minutes walk).

Take Bus 166 towards West Croydon direction and get off at Oaks Park (5 minutes bus journey) and cross the road to get to the gate of the farm.

Temporary Bus Stop on the opposite side of the road from the farm. You get off here if you are using Route 4 getting from Sutton. If you are leaving the farm after your fun day and going back to either Coulsdon South, Purley or East Croydon then get on here. Bus direction going towards West Croydon or Purley.

Inside the Lavender Farm 入到薰衣草農場裡

As you enter the farm, you will be greeted by staff members and they will you for payment. You can either pay by cash or card and then you will get a ticket.

There are portable clean toilets on the site. There is running tap water and soap for you to wash your hands.

You are greeted by the Welcome sign to enter the gift shop and cafe area. Inside the gift shop, you can buy many lavender products.

You can also purchase food and drinks from the cafe. There are ice creams, teas, lemonade (all have lavender flavours!) and lavender afternoon tea (£6.95)! There is a seating area with benches and tables where you can sit down and enjoy your food.

Sunny's tip: The lavender ice cream (£2.80) is not recommended as it is very icy and full of lavender leaves which isn't very pleasant when eating it. The lavender lemonade (£2.50) is nice but can be a little sweet for some people.

You can also queue up for the tractor (costs of £2 per person, ticket is available in the gift shop) and then you can go around the farm and enjoy the view of the sea of lavender. The queueing place is near the welcome sign. The tractor ride will not be running when the ground is too wet due to the rain.

Attention!!

Be careful of stinging nettles which are grown next to the lavender bushes! They have a spiky shaped leaves with very tiny spikes on their leaves (you cannot see them). If you touch them it is really painful and feel like someone has just injected lots of pins into your skin. You will get a massive red patch with bumps being developed. As this site does not have any dock leaves (a leaf that can help and acts as an antidote), you can go to the gift shop and ask them for some lavender oil. The oil can help you to sooth and heals the pain and bumps.
